Belong

Writing this song was a journey that has lasted for a while.

The first lines of lyrics were written in Norwegian at least three years ago. But I couldn’t really figure out the direction the song was taking. Not until I met my present wife, and the story found its own logic.

My wife co-wrote the lyrics, as usual, and I also convinced her to help me with the vocals this time.

By the way, the name of my web site is borrowed from this song 🙂

Lyrics

And I waited way too long
In October’s waning light
Ploughing mem’ries to feel strong
And fight the darkness

Overshadowed by a house
Where a child was raised unseen
And my heartbeat almost froze
Deep shadows forming

Absent lullabies for sleep
Absent hugs for me to keep
How it hurt to always miss a friend
When I was ten

Stop the tide, I understand
This is not where I belong
Stop the tide, I understand
This is not where I belong

And I woke from drunken dreams
On a nightless neon street
Counted hours with a stream
Of smoking Hedges

To survive I chose the chains
Of a heated house of cards
Where I struggled with the strains
Of always missing

Down the drinks to make me sleep
Senseless dreams for me to keep
Sullen faces show I’m still alone
The dice is thrown

Stop the tide, I understand
This is not where I belong
Stop the tide, I understand
This is not where I belong

In a soupful of souls
There’s just one who can make me whole
Join my dream and see the new life we deserve
Stop the tide, make this real
Our souls, when they meet, will heal
You’ll wake up to find my name carved in your heart

Ride the tide, I understand
This is where I will belong
Ride the tide, I understand
This is where I will grow strong

Never doubt your direction
On my road to regal Rome
And my Pantheon of pleasure
Where I’ll finally come home
